Karen grew up in a musical family, singing with her daddy’s band when she was knee-high to a grasshopper, as they say in her native Ozark Mountains. She’s been performing ever since, playing to anyone who would sit still long enough. When she wasn’t demanding to be the center of attention, she was high in her backyard tree reading just about anything she could get her hands on. Her love of theatre and the stage grew from school plays and backyard shows to a college degree and regional theatre. And her love of literature grew as well. She began listening to audiobooks when they really were books on tape. Six years ago, she had an epiphany (why it took her so long is a mystery). She could combine her love of performing with her love of the written word, recording her first audiobook in 2012.
Take a lifetime of passion for the written word, add over 30 years of experience creating characters on the stage, throw in 20 years of an audiobook listening obsession with a dash of creative interpretation, and there you have the essence of Karen, a narrator whose passion and skill transcends a story “beyond words”.
In her non-acting world, Karen has worked as a costumer, an antique and vintage dealer, a paste-up artist for newspapers and print publishing companies, a bank teller and branch supervisor, and most recently in the legal industry as a Legal Secretary and IT Director. Photography was an early passion, and she devoted hundreds of hours working in her home darkroom before the digital world took over the field and the sources for supplies to support her hobby dwindled. She has spent over half her life researching natural supplements and natural healing, and is an advocate for the whole health approach.
